- 1863 French Liberty Head / Army & Navy. Fuld-14/297 a. Rarity-5. Copper. Plain Edge. MS-66 RB (NGC). 19 mm. Certainly among the finest known for this scarcer Patriotic type, the obverse retains nearly full mint orange color beneath an overlay of iridescent olive and lilac-brown patina. The more richly patinated reverse displays marbled steel-olive and golden-brown, direct lighting calling forth with vivid salmon pink and cobalt blue undertones. Fully struck, highly lustrous and expertly preserved, it is difficult to imagine a more desirable example from this die pairing. Provenance: From the Sherwood Collection.
