- FROM THE CORONET COLLECTION II. This is the coin from the original Coronet #1 set of Morgans. We were able to buy it back in 2018. Here is the original description from the auction: "This is a really nice piece, especially for a date that is famous for not coming in nice condition. You’ll typically see them flat or hacked up, but this coin is far from either. You can see just a few tiny, scattered ticks, but no scuffs or serious lines. The reverse is easily an MS65+. An intense luster shows off beautiful, snowy white surfaces. Miss Liberty and the details are frosted and sharply struck with no flatness on the reverse. The eye appeal is fantastic! PCGS 12, NGC 7, CAC 3. The last PCGS MS65 piece to sell at auction was in 2001 and we find it hard to believe that there is a PCGS population of twelve. We think it’s closer to seven or eight. Legend-Morphy sold the lone MS66 in 2013 for $161,000 and even an NGC non CAC sold for $70,500 in 2014. This is an extremely rare opportunity to buy a real gem 1893-CC. Opportunity knocks! " This coin was sold in a heated bidding war in 2015 for $129,950. We bought it back last year for slightly more. Legend Numismatics, our sister company, has long felt this was more of a stopper than a 1889-CC (which every one knows you either get no bean or a lesser coin). It has been more than 30 years since PCGS has started grading. The pops in the past 3 years may have gone up by 2, but the CAC pops have stayed the same-3. If you are building any type of CC or Morgan set, this is the coin for you! Here too, the Coronet Collector did all the hard work! Cert. Number 28286117 PCGS # 7222
