详细说明: 1842-C Liberty Half Eagle. Large Date. Winter Variety 1 (5-C). MS-64 (NGC). Despite being less rare than its identically dated Small Date counterpart, the 1842-C Large Date is still one of the most challenging Charlotte Mint Half Eagles to collect. In fact, only the '42-C Small Date and '46-C are rarer in an absolute sense. The 1842-C Large Date is also favorably ranked in high grades, where it is the eighth rarest of 24 issues in the Charlotte Mint Half Eagle series.<br /> Tied for Condition Census #2 with one or two other near-Gems, this MS-64 is a stand-out rarity in a sale replete with highly significant Southern gold coins. Shimmering satin-textured features are also possessed of pinpoint striking detail that extends from the rims to the centers. Very pretty light-rose color is seen throughout, but wispy abrasions are few in number and confined to isolated areas, from where they are hardly distracting to the eye. Pedigree concerns compel us to mention a few wispy handling marks in the upper-left obverse field, as well as an extremely small planchet void (as struck) in the reverse field to the right of the C mintmark. A coin that should be of obvious importance to the advanced Southern gold collector.
