1881 Octagonal 50 Cents. BG-956. Rarity-4+. Die State II. Indian Head. MS-64 (PCGS). This is the plate coin in the 2003 edition of the book <em>California Pioneer Fractional Gold </em>by Walter Breen and Ron Gillio, where it&nbsp;illustrates Die State II for the type. Original khaki-rose surfaces with the lower half of the reverse a bit lighter in color than the balance of the coin. More direct angles call forth appreciable reflectivity in the fields, the devices set apart with more of a satin texture.
