- 1739-N Sou Marque. Montpellier Mint. Vlack-149b. Rarity-8. EF-40 (PCGS). 30.8 grains. Deep steel-gray patina with just a trace of silvering, which is mostly confined to the reverse. Microroughness is noted for accuracy, but the in hand appearance is quite smooth, and there are no sizeable marks. Boldly defined overall, if a tad soft along the upper obverse border, with all major design elements fully appreciable. A minor planchet crack at 10 o'clock relative to the obverse is as made. A rare variety of the otherwise plentiful 1739-N issue, with the letter C missing from the blundered word BENEDITUM. Provenance: From the Sydney F. Martin Collection.
