- A totally original and VERY pleasing example of this very tough early D-mint $2.50. Rich honey gold color is amplified by a bold satin luster. The obverse is very well struck with full definition in Liberty's hair curls, dentils, and other portions of the obverse design. The reverse shows some slight weakness in the central eagle details. A very scarce early southern branch mint issue that saw a mintage of 13,674. These do not appear very often, and perhaps 200 examples survive today, most in the VF to XF. This fully GEM XF example displays a better than normally encountered eye appeal--nicer than normally seen. PCGS 34, NGC 18, CAC 6. The only CAC-approved XF45 to ever sell in auction was an NGC coin that sold in the 2014 FUN auction for $8,813 and the last PCGS-graded coin to sell was back in 2010--seven years ago! Clearly they are not as common as the populations might have you think! If you collect Classic Head gold coins, southern branch mint issues, or just enjoy really eye appealing coins, take a look at this beauty! Cert. Number 81939452 PCGS # 7700
