- From the Hallett Collection. The Denver mint 42/1 is scarcer overall than its Philadelphia counterpart, and the under digit is not as bold as either. That is likely the reason why the Philadelphia mint overdate was discovered in 1943, while the 42/1-D was not discovered until the early 1960s! However, by some miracle, there are a small number of GEM survivors for collectors to bid on. GEMs are ALWAYS in demand--especially when CAC approved! Bold, brilliant luster blazes with strong cartwheel texture across the smooth problem free surfaces. The strike is as crisp and complete as you would expect for a GEM and the blast white silver surfaces are of Premium Quality! PCGS 18, NGC 9, CAC 11. The most recent PCGS/CAC coin sold in the 2017 ANA auction, realizing $28,200. An earlier example sold for $30,550 in a June 2015 auction. The current PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $31,500. There are 16 coins graded higher on the PCGS Population Report; a single PCGS MS67 FB sits at the top of the Population. This lovely GEM is worthy of any high end set of Mercury dimes and is so visually impressive that it will delight any collector! Bid accordingly. Cert. Number 34085430 PCGS # 5041
