Interesting Novodel of Alexander I Struck over Ruble of Catherine II "the Great" RUSSIA. Silver Ruble Pattern Novodel, 1810. St. Petersburg Mint. Alexander I. PCGS SPECIMEN-61. KM-Unlisted; Bit-H684. Plain edge (though host was originally engrailed right). Very utilitarian in nature, this novodel rendering of an Alexander I pattern Ruble presents a recycled planchet, with a great deal of the host coin's reverse noted near the peripheries of the overtype's reverse. Given the amount of undertype remaining, it is possible to attribute it as a Ruble of Catherine II "the Great," from between 1773-76. Incredibly interesting and VERY RARELYseen, with a light gray tone yielding to other pastel hues throughout. Estimate: $20,000 - $40,000. Provenance: From the Sigma Collection.
