- SWITZERLAND. Aargau. Aarau. Federal Shooting Festival Prize Silver Medal, 1849. NGC MEDAL AU-58 PL. 37 mm. Richter-1b; Martin-1. By Antoine Bovy. Reeded edge. Coat of Arms of Aarau beneath a fortress with a maiden below promoting art and industry - "KUNST UND FLEISS DES FRIEDENS PREIS" above, "CANTON AARGAU / 1803" in exergue. The significance of 1803 date is that was the year when minting rights were restored to the Cantons; Reverse: Coat of Arms of the Canton of Aargau with the Swiss Cross above, surrounded by a wreath of oak and olive branches. Inscription: "25 JAHRIGE JUBELFEIER DES EIDG. SCHUTZENFESTES / AARAU 1849" around. 1,200 pieces minted. Iridescent peripheral toning. Estimate: $100 - $150. NGC MEDAL AU-58 PL.
