- 1981-S Roosevelt Dime--Double Struck Die Adjustment Strike--Proof-61 (PCGS). Major Mint errors on proof coins are very rare and eagerly sought by specialized collectors. This piece combines two errors, the first a double strike that is most readily evident on the obverse on Roosevelt's portrait. This feature is difficult to discern on both sides, however, because the overall detail is very soft due to the second, more pronounced error affecting this piece. Although described as a Die Adjustment Strike on the PCGS insert, this type of error is actually correctly attributed as a Weak Strike and results when a press strikes a coin with insufficient pressure. It is important to note, however, that despite the overall lack of detail both the date and the mintmark on the obverse are clear, attributing this piece as a proof Roosevelt Dime. Bright surfaces with scattered contact marks limiting the grade.
