- 1851 Liberty Head Eagle. AU-53 (PCGS). Rich, deep, honey-rose color with warm orange-gold highlights also very much in evidence. Both sides are sharply struck in general with appealing mint luster throughout. An underrated issue, as are many pre-Civil War era Liberty Head eagles, the 1851 is remarkably rare in Mint State for a Philadelphia Mint issue with a mintage of 176,328 pieces.
