- FROM THE UNFORGETTABLE COLLECTION Tied for the absolute FINEST KNOWN of this low mintage commemorative. This coin is virtually PRISTINE! Of the few tiny ticks that are seen with the aid of a strong glass, none have an impact on the outstanding visual allure. A thick mint frost glows, accenting satiny smooth and vibrant surfaces. A hint of the faintest toning attests to the originality and adds to the high end visual allure. The quality and eye appeal are unimproveable! The Cincinnati half dollar commemorates the 50th anniversary of the Ohio city as a center of music, thus the portrait of America's troubadour, Stephen Foster, and an allegorical goddess holding a harp on the reverse. A congressional act dated March 31, 1936 authorized the issue. Each mint produced 5,000 examples and these were offered in P,D,S sets, most of which have been broken up over the years. PCGS 37, NGC 10, CAC 6. There are 3 in MS67+ and NONE FINER. This is the only example to sell in auction, realizing $15,000 in June 2018. The current PCGS Price Guide value is $18,000 and we have no doubt that this impressive coin will bring a very strong bid. It should be noted that the overall eye appeal of this SUPERB GEM is better than the record holder MS67 from the Guttag Collection that sold back in the 2011 ANA auction for $17,250. Bid accordingly!
