- 1862 Pattern Seated Liberty Half Dollar. Judd-296, Pollock-354. Rarity-6+. Proof-64 BN (PCGS). 1865 Pattern Seated Liberty Half Dollar. Judd-429, Pollock-502. Rarity-7-. Proof-64 (NGC). The obverse and reverse designs are virtually identical to those that the Mint used to produce regular issue 1862 Seated Liberty half dollars, although on the reverse the motto GOD OUR TRUST is inscribed in the field above the eagle. Struck in copper with a reeded edge.<br /> Only about a dozen examples of this copper striking are believed extant, a few specimens of which may be restrikes from the late 1860s and/or 1870s. An otherwise copper-brown example, the obverse has retained appreciable amounts of original faded-orange color that are best discerned at more direct angles. Fully struck throughout, and revealing no worrisome contact marks or other blemishes.
