- 1795 Flowing Hair Half Dollar. O-107a, T-31. Rarity-5. Two Leaves. Good-6 (PCGS).
This richly and originally toned example is awash in blended mauve-gray and olive-charcoal. Wispy handling marks are quite plentiful, especially on the obverse, but none are sizeable enough to warrant individual attention. Isolated border areas are soft, but all design elements are at least partially discernible, and the central devices are boldly outlined. This is a scarcer die marriage of the 1795 Flowing Hair half dollar issue, the present example representing the later O-107a die state with an essentially horizontal crack bisecting the reverse. Tompkins Die Stage 1/3.
Provenance: From the E. Horatio Morgan Collection. Earlier from Superior's sale of the H.W. Blevins Collection of Early Half Dollars and Silver Dollars, June 1988, lot 3022.
PCGS# 6052. NGC ID: 24E7.
