- Circa 1890 Patriotic Order Sons of America medal. Musante GW-1056, Baker-Unlisted, Obverse of Douglas-71. White Metal. SP-66 (PCGS). 35.0 mm. Light platinum gray with soft toning in the fields. Sharply frosted devices contrast nicely with the deeply reflective fields. Though dated to circa 1888 by Musante, we suspect that this should be 1890. The Patriotic Order Sons of America held a Valley Forge reunion in 1890, and this motif is suggestive of Washington at prayer at Valley Forge. It also shares an obverse with a medal struck to commemorate the Inaugural Centennial in 1889.
