- Not a major rarity from the absolute sense of the word, but in GEM, with FULL HEAD details, the 1919-D is a famous issue in this series for its rarity. Very lustrous surfaces have a satiny/pearly sheen on both sides. This luster really beams through a lovely pale gold and icy blue tone on the obverse and a delicate pewter on the reverse. As you twirl this coin in a light the soft color really does stand out. The strike is ultra crisp for the date with not just the full head definition, but every detail on the obverse is fully rendered to its finest advantage, including every brad on the shield. A few stray, old ticks are minor and visible only with a powerful glass and none of them detract from the glorious eye appeal. PCGS 15, NGC 6. EXTREMELY RARE any finer! The most recent example to sell in auction realized $32,900 in the 2016 FUN auction. Prior to that, one sold in June 2014 for $42,594. There are 10 coins finer, the finest is the PCGS MS67 FH ex Just Having Fun Collection, selling for $149,500 in the 2012 ANA auction. This GEM is worthy of a very high grade set of Standing Liberty quarters indeed! Cert. Number 35592630 PCGS # 5731
