N-8, as most known 1844 Proofs are. Very RARE and VERY high end quality for the assigned grade. This near gem proof large cent has bold, chocolate brown mirrors that are smooth and icy. Accents of light blue patina adds dimension to the razor sharp struck devices. A few tiny, ancient flecks attest to this coins originality. The eye appeal is very high end. Only 20 are estimated to have been struck. PCGS 1, NGC 0, CAC 1 The former PCGS PR64 BN, ex Sloss, Snow, Greensboro Collections is now graded NGC PR65 BN. The only other PR64 to sell is the ex Starr, Halperin, Gardner Collection. The present specimen does not seem to match any that appear in our auction database. The now NGC PR65 BN brought $17,625 in its last PCGS appearance, in January 2013 (and as an NGC 65 for $18,800 in August 2014). The current PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $17,500.
