- FROM THE CULLEN B COLLECTION The Spitting Eagle is a popular, yet "common" variety, with a die chip just under the Eagle's beak. Based on casual observations of 91-CC dollars, about half of them are VAM-3. The present GEM is gorgeously toned and beautifully preserved. Shades of teal, sky-blue, soft tangerine, and apricot-rose hues are amplified by a strong, booming luster. Clearly this exceptional coin sat undisturbed in an old bank wrapped roll. Microscopic traces of contact can be found under the toning with the aid of a strong glass. The eye appeal is amazing. PCGS 826, NGC 129, CAC 77. PCGS certified four Spitting Eagles in MS65+ and just four finer. The current PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $7,500 and the most recent one to sell realized $5,520. Keep in mind that a slightly finer MS66 would cost $20,000+, if you can find one. The Sunnywood-Simpson Collection had two toned 1891-CCs a 64+ non-CAC that sold for $7,344 in our May 2017 Regency Auction and the other was a 65 CAC that sold for $5,288 in our October 2014 Regency Auction. This marvelous GEM should bring around the average of those two. We anticipate strong bidding as this date rarely comes nicely toned. Cert. Number 37075341 PCGS # 007206
