From the Midwest Collection. The 1809 dime represents the first year of issue of John Reich's Capped Bust design on the denomination. Only 51,065 were struck, and they clearly went directly into circulation, where they disappeared. Today, the experts at PCGS CoinFacts estimate about 20 coins survive in all Mint State grades! The present coin is fully CHOICE! Richly toned with mottled blues, roses, and oranges on both sides. A rich, underlying luster brings out the subtle hues and glows around the sharply struck devices. The eye appeal is excellent. PCGS 4, NGC 3. Want evidence to the rarity of this date? The D. Brent Pogue Collection lacked an example--think about that, in the decades that the Pogues were collecting, they could not find a high grade piece they liked! The A.J. Vanderbilt Collection, sold in March 2018 was the first PCGS MS63 sold at auction since 2003! That coin brought $11,700. The Gardner Collection had the Pittman coin, (a PCGS/CAC MS64) that sold for $31,725 in June 2014. What a great rarity for the early dime collector! If you need an example for your collection, do NOT let this one pass you by! Cert. Number 28579820 PCGS # 4486
