This is the SINGLE FINEST KNOWN example of this RARE "transitional" Pattern. Struck from the regular 1864 Proof obverse and 1866 Proof reverse dies, this Rarity-7- (7-12 known) variety was struck in copper with a reeded edge. In all color categories this is the highest numerically graded! Blazing underlying RED mirrors beam and gleam with a lava like look. The brilliance is flaming red with accents of iridescent overtones combining with a thick frost on the devices give this SUPERB GEM a CAMEO like appearance. The eye appeal is AMAZING and the quality is heads and shoulders above the spotty PR64+ RB from the Simpson Collection. PCGS 2, NGC 2, CAC 1.
