FROM THE PERFECTION COLLECTION OF CAPPED BUST HALF DOLLARS A lovely, original, high Condition Census O-109, a somewhat scarce Rarity-3 die pairing. This example is richly toned in a deep dove, pewter, and slate tone with accents of rose and lilac that come to the fore when the lustrous surfaces are viewed in a light. The O-109 die pairing appears to have had some minor issues during striking which adds to the charm of the variety. A number of die cracks and other flaws are noted in the Overton reference. This coin was struck from an early striking, where only one of these, a minor, very thin crack at D S of UNITED STATES has just begun to form and the dies show some light clash marks. The typical O-109 has areas of weakness at the peripheral dentils; this one shows nearly full denticulation on both sides. Indeed, this early die state shows sharp definition on both sides. Reviewing other examples enumerated in Stephen Herrman's AMBPR, this one shows a rotated reverse die (about 50 degrees off its normal axis). The eye appeal is quite nice for the assigned grade, with no visible marks of any kind to impair the great visual allure of this near-GEM 1810 half dollar. Ex Heritage June 2015, lot 3956. PCGS 19, NGC 19, CAC 7. Back in June 2015, this coin realized $12,338. The current Collectors Universe value is listed at $11,500 and the CAC CPG value is listed at $12,000. Just four examples have graded finer at PCGS: a 64+, a 65, and two in MS66. The sole MS65 is the Noblet-Pogue-Chicago collection coin we sold in September 2021 for $27,025. We believe this coin will sell in excess of published levels and its previous APR. Here is a great coin for the type, date, or variety collector, bid accordingly. Cert. Number 31988705 PCGS # 6095
