详细说明: 1891-CC Liberty Double Eagle. AU-53 (PCGS). The medium orange-gold surfaces have retained substantial luster despite the modest stay in commerce. The fields are somewhat reflective in places and a bold light source reveals an olive-gold afterglow. Contact marks are minimal to the unassisted eye, and those marks that show under low magnification are well-hidden and not overly intrusive. One of only 5,000 double eagles of the date produced in Carson City during the waning years of that mint's productivity. As noted in the oft-quoted Winter reference on Carson City gold issues: "Unlike the Carson City half eagles and eagles of this date, the 1891-CC double eagle is a rare, low-mintage issue. In fact, its production of just 5,000 pieces is the second lowest for any Carson City double eagle, trailing only the 1870-CC." We suspect this rarity will attract more than one specialist when the bidding begins, so please plan your acquisition strategy accordingly.
