B-5, the "repunched date" variety with both 1s recut in the date, the second 1 most clearly so featuring two bold flags. This is a Condition Census level near-GEM for the die marriage, ranking centrally in the Tompkins and Rea, et al Census listings. Beautifully toned on both sides the superb luster radiates below peripheral Caribbean blue which then melts into a delicate soft rose-gold. Accents of coppery red and cobalt can be seen when the light hits the surfaces at varying angles. The devices show fabulous definition, befitting a strong, exacting blow from these dies. Some stray old traces of contact can be found under the color, with effort, and only when using a strong glass. Obviously these are mentioned for accuracy, as they do not have any impact on the incredible eye appeal. PCGS 15, NGC 63 (both large and small letter varieties combined), CAC 7. This is the ONLY MS64+ at PCGS. The current Collectors Universe value is listed at $15,000 and we sold a PCGS MS64 CAC for $11,163 in July 2022. NOTHING FINER THAN MS64+ has ever sold in auction.
