- GERMANY. Prussia. Peace of Basel/Friedrich Wilhelm II Silver Medal, 1795. PCGS MS-61 Gold Shield. Pax in Nummis-671; Marienburg-9964, Sommer-A53; GPH-911. By A. König. Obverse: Garlanded and uniformed bust right; Reverse: Eagle, with olive branch in beak, serpent-entwined caduceus in talons, and head left, flying slightly right; radiant temple and plowing scene in background. Lightly toned and brilliant, with just a few scattered light marks consistent with the grade level. Signed in 1795 between the Kingdoms of Spain and Prussia, the Landgraviate of Hesse-Kassel, and the First French Republic, the Peace of Basel allowed the latter to settle numerous disputes as she emerged from her revolution, ultimately pitting former adversaries against one another and paving the way for a rise in French power under the reins of Napoleon.
