- A truly FABULOUS early Seated half dollar, the SOLE FINEST 1842 Medium Date graded by PCGS. A sensationally well preserved GEM with brilliant, semi-reflective, flashy luster that accents the wonderful surfaces. A dappled iridescent patina of bluish-gray, lilac-slate, and olive-russet hues cover both sides, with some areas of untoned silver that bursts through the surrounding colors. A strong glass reveals a few of the most miniscule ticks, long ago toned over with the original toning. The devices, both Ms. Liberty and the eagle are both crisply rendered with full, complete strikes. Boasting a superb provenance that includes two of the greatest collectors of the late 20th and early 21st centuries! Ex Steve Contursi; Oliver Jung Collection, American Numismatic Rarities, July 2004, lot 66; Eugene H. Gardner Collection, Heritage, June 2014, lot 30484; unknown intermediaries; our consignor. PCGS 1, NGC 1, CAC 1. Over seven years ago, this GEM sold for $25,850. Today, both the PCGS Price Guide and CAC CPG value are listed at $30,000. With NONE FINER, this marvelous example belongs in the FINEST of Seated Liberty half dollar collections. Do not let this AMAZING coin slip away! Good luck! Cert. Number 25234867 PCGS # 6239
