- GREAT BRITAIN. 1/2 Crown, 1746. London Mint. George II. PCGS EF-40. S-3695A; KM-584.3. LIMA type. Pleasing dove gray surfaces show light to moderate wear on the peaks, while gentle sepia tone sits in the recesses. An attractive and historical minor that will tempt many English numismatists. The famous 'LIMA' marked coinage commemorates the seizure by Admiral Anson of a Spanish treasure fleet off the coast of Peru, and was supposedly struck with the silver gained from that naval action. Anson's voyage into the Pacific, executed during the so-called War of Jenkin's Ear, was meant to disrupt shipping traffic and cause general mayhem for the Spanish. Estimate: $100 - $200.
