- A superb example, tied for second finest certified. Rich mint frost dominates on both sides. The obverse shows a subtle, mottled violet-grey-auburn patina while the reverse shows a narrow band of beautiful rainbow at the rims. The surfaces hold up to intense scrutiny, even with a strong glass. A small mintage of 5,005. PCGS 59 (11 in 67+), NGC 43 (4 in 67+), CAC 29. Only two are graded finer at NGC; 3 at PCGS (all MS68). Only one NGC MS67+ has sold in auction, a dramatically toned coin that realized $3,525 in August 2014. More recently a PCGS MS67+ CAC coin sold for $2,233. The PCGS Price Guide value is $3,500 and keep in mind that nothing graded finer has ever sold in auction, leaving this one to be among the best available to collectors.
