- 1859 Pattern Half Dollar. Judd-239, Pollock-295. Rarity-4. Proof-55 (PCGS). 1864 Pattern Seated Liberty Quarter. Judd-384, Pollock-452. Rarity-7-. Proof-64 (PCGS). The obverse features James Barton Longacre's "French Head of Liberty," as referred to by R. Coulton Davis. A bust of Liberty faces right with the legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA around the border and the date 1859 below. Liberty is wearing a wreath of oak and vines on her head and a scroll inscribed LIBERTY crosses her shoulder. The reverse design, which is attributed to Anthony C. Paquet, exhibits a wreath of cereals around the denomination 1/2 DOLLAR. Struck in silver with a reeded edge.<br /> Minimal friction and scattered hairlines point to light mishandling for this still mostly reflective piece. Untoned apart from a few splashes of pale rose iridescence scattered about on the obverse.
