CURATED BY REAL AMERICAN TREASURE Here is a major piece of modern numismatic history. After PCGS launched in 1986, John Albanese began NGC in 1987. The first generation of NGC holder was distinct from the holders we are used to today. The insert surrounding the coin was black, which provided a dramatic "pop" for untoned silver and gold coins; it proved unpopular for copper or dark coins. Used only for a few months, before switching to a white insert. The label likewise was placed on the reverse side of holder, with the NGC emblem above the coin on the black plastic insert. Today, these are incredibly RARE. Our consignor's extensive and exhaustive research, suggests that approximately 350 - 400 coins were encapsulated in these holders roughly the last week of August, first week of September 1987. Perhaps the most avidly sought holder among "slab collectors". The Barber dime encapsulated in this rare holder is a lovely and original near-GEM with a bold luster and sharp strike. We sold an NGC "Black" holder in December for $12,925. We expect this one to bring a similar price! Good luck. Cert. Number 121356019 PCGS # 4863
