RUSSIA. Silver Ruble Pattern, 1897-(★v). Brussels Mint. Nicholas II. NGC VF-25. KM-Unlisted; Bit-207 (R3). A VERY RAREpattern issue struck in Brussels and featuring a star and bird on the edge (the bird here styled as a "v"), this specimen surprisingly saw a great deal of handling despite its prototype nature. For completeness, a few spots are noted on the neck of Russia's final czar of the 20th century. This type is listed as a pattern in Bitkin's reference, though NGC has chosen merely to treat it as a variant of the regular business strike. In either event, that immense rarity does not change.
