- 1874-S Liberty Seated Quarter. Arrows. Briggs 3-A. MS-66 (PCGS). A mottling of light rose-apricot iridescence enlivens a base of antique silver patina on both sides of this wonderfully original example. Sharply struck with bountiful satin luster. Thanks to the discovery of a hoard of 80 to 100 pieces in a West Coast bank in 1949 (per Larry Briggs, 1991), the 1874-S is the most frequently encountered quarter of the Arrows, Motto Liberty Seated design in Mint State. The present Gem, off the market since the 1960s, is sure to appeal to quality conscious collectors seeking an example of this two-year type.
