- 1838 Seated Liberty Dime. No Drapery. Small Stars. Fortin-101, FS-801. Doubled Die Reverse. MS-65 (PCGS). CAC. A simply exquisite Gem, this brilliant-white piece allows ready appreciation of a radiant semi prooflike finish from the dies. Both sides are decidedly reflective in the fields, where fairly bold die polish lines (as made) are also evident. Satiny devices are fully struck with razor sharp definition, and a lack of even trivial distractions further confirms the validity of the MS-65 designation from PCGS. A loupe reveals doubling to the letters O in ONE and D in DIME on the reverse, as well as a few elements of the wreath. The Small Stars is much the scarcer of the two <em>Guide Book </em>varieties of the 1838 Seated dime, especially in the finer Mint State grades.
