- Undated (1861-1865) GOLD WEIGHT 2 DWT NEW YORK / SILVER MINE TOKEN. Fuld-286A/287 b, Fuld-NY-630AG-8b. Rarity-9. Brass. Plain Edge. MS-63 (PCGS). 19 mm. These tokens were issued by John P. Gruber and struck from dies made by Charles D. Horter and Emil Sigel, all of New York City. Gruber's business was located at 178 Chatham Street as of 1864, and he was a prolific manufacturer of scales, pumps and weights. Although the GOLD WEIGHT obverse die featured here may also have been used to make weights, these tokens were intended as currency items. Provenance: Ex Dale Cade; Rossa & Tanenbaum; Q.
