Legend Rare Coin Auctions is honored to offer this 1931-S dime, the SOLE FINEST graded of this conditionally rare issue. Truly SUPERB in every way! Bold, brilliant, beaming luster radiates strongly on both sides. The fields have a rich, flashy sheen that glows with a stunning vibrance. Sharply struck devices have a wonderful, glossy texture to them that gleams with a seductive brilliance that contrasts against the delicately dusted gold iridescent toning. This is an amazing survivor of the date. Every detail is very well struck and fully formed, with crisp, full definition. Like many issues struck from 1929 to 1934, the Great Depression resulted in few high grade examples for collectors today. Indeed, as the nation sank deeper into the Depression, the need for coinage fell dramatically, the mintage of dimes fell to 1.8 million and because a dime did mean something to so many people suffering from the ravages of the economic situation, precious few were saved at the time of issue. That an example in such a lofty state of preservation still survives is just by chance! PCGS 10, NGC 2, CAC 5. This is the ONLY MS67+ graded and NONE are graded finer. PCGS has not assigned a value in this lofty grade, but in non-"+" MS67 FB, the Collector's Universe value is listed at $22,500.
