FROM THE WOLVERINE COLLECTION. One of the FINEST 1899-S quarters that survives from a relatively low 708,000 mintage. Satiny smooth surfaces show off a brilliant luster on both sides, showing off a pristine quality. Even using a strong glass we are unable to locate any flaws, no matter how minor or microscopic. Original toning is somewhat mottled, but attractively so-this coin is not splotchy or stained in its toning pattern. Shades of yellow-gold, olive, lavender, and silver-gray patina blends beautifully on both sides, especially so on the obverse. The devices are sharply struck with fully frosted reliefs, imparting a superb eye appeal. PCGS 3, NGC 4. This is the most recent example to sell, bringing $5,640 in April 2017 and prior to that, one sold for $6,463 in the 2016 ANA sale. The current PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $10,000 and keep in mind there are just two coins graded finer.
