A truly unforgettable and PQ example of this KEY Classic Commemorative half dollar. This is not your typical 1928 Hawaiian! A large number of the 9,958 examples struck were stored at the Bank of Hawaii, and the hot, tropical humidity of the climate there imparted a dusty, yellow-gold tone that is quite common on this scarce commemorative type. While this one also displays that original Hawaii patina, this GEM's beauty is set apart from the typical Hawaiian! A rainbow band streaks across the central reverse, painting a rainbow over the Hawaiian landscape behind Kamahamaha. The strike is bold and the surfaces are glowing with a sensationally vibrant mint luster. The eye appeal is very high end! PCGS 133, NGC 71, CAC 47. This is the coin we sold in July 2022 from the Unforgettable Collection, which realized $7,344 on an estimate of $5,500-$6,500.
