- 1883 Liberty Nickel. With CENTS. Proof-67 Cameo (NGC). Faintly frosted devices and reflective fields exhibit lively champagne-gold highlights. Among the four finest Cameo Proofs of the date seen by NGC. The Guide Book suggests a Proof mintage for the type of 6,783 pieces, though some of that amount may have gone as unsold; 5,219 Proofs of the earlier No CENTS type were also reportedly struck -- it just seems like an awful lot of Proofs, 12,002 total of both types, to be absorbed by the collecting public and investors without some quantity being left over at the end of the calendar year.
