- As the mintage of 28,000 would suggest, the 67-S quarter eagle is very scarce in all grades, and in Mint State it is incredibly RARE and difficult to locate. The present MS61 has a great look. Totally original, rich orange-gold patina bathes both sides. Awash in a glowing, satin luster, the nicely struck up devices stand out nicely against the generally smooth fields. This date is typically seen poorly produced and is extremely rare above XF, based on David Akers' classic research. Modern certified population reports back this up, with the majority of graded examples falling in the VF30 to XF45 range. PCGS 6, NGC 9. Do not let the populations fool you, these VERY RARELY appear in auction. The last NGC coin to sell in auction was in August 2009. Based on the auction photos, this is more original and eye appealing than the others sold, and should realize a strong bid. The Collector's Universe price is $4,900. NGC has graded a single MS62 finer and there are only five coins finer at PCGS, and none of these have sold since 2001! David Akers considered this date "to be grossly undervalued," and we whole heartedly agree! Cert. Number 55774001 PCGS # 7806
