- THE GEORGE SCHWENK COLLECTION The lowest mintage date in the Buffalo nickel series, only 970,000 were struck for circulation, and that is just what they did! Ranking third rarest issue in Mint State behind just the 16 Doubled Die and 18/7-D; as such even modest Mint State grade examples like this are in strong demand from collectors. The present example is exceptionally high end for the assigned grade. A bold mint frost glows under a dusting of totally original antique silver-dove-gray overtone with some soft accents of tangerine-gold and light rosy-pink. The surfaces are very clean and high end for the assigned grade; the strike is bold throughout, and we think if resubmitted it could "+" (no guarantees). A strong glass reveals a single tiny carbon fleck, but it is very minor. This is a WOW coin for the grade for sure as nice as some graded MS63 or better. PCGS 23, NGC 26, CAC 5. This is the one that brought $11,400 in April 2022, well above the current published levels; indeed this coin brought a price in the spread between MS63 and MS64 prices, it is that high end. Bid accordingly. Cert. Number 21802445 PCGS # 3959
