详细说明: 1787 Connecticut Copper. Miller 39.2-ee, W-4220. Rarity-5-. Draped Bust Left, AUCTOBI / ET LIR. AU-55 (PCGS). 151.4 grains. A glossy tan specimen that should place near the top of the Condition Census for the variety. Finer overall than Taylor:2655, Pine Tree/EAC '75:164, Hessberg:1530, and most other specimens that have been sold at public auction in the past few decades. Sharpness equivalent to Oechsner:1168, but lacking the flans flaws exhibited by that specimen. Attractive surfaces have a few tiny marks, but none of particular significance. Struck slightly off center, affecting the very tops of the letters TOBI on the obverse, LIR on the reverse. Additionally, the lower portions of the date numerals are off the flan. Typical obverse die state, with bulge at the letters NEC, lightly affecting the reverse of the seated figure's head, owing to the die rotation (270 degrees) Evidence of die clashing seen on the obverse, and several small die cracks are noted in the peripheral legends. A lovely example whose offering in this sale represents a grand opportunity for the Connecticut copper specialist.
