- Undated (Circa 1793-1795) Kentucky Token. W-8805. Copper. Engrailed Edge. MS-63 BN (PCGS). 140.43 grains. Medium golden-brown throughout with lively splashes of mint orange in the deeply protected design areas. Choice for the grade with a crisp strike that presents full scroll details on the obverse, and full states' initials and horizontal stripes in the reverse stars. A popular British Conder token -- Lancashire, D&H-59b, a variety called "RR" (about akin to Rarity-6 or so in U.S. terms) in the Dalton and Hamer Conder token reference. Early obverse state, die crack just forming at scroll. Among the half dozen finest examples of the variety seen thus far by PCGS within the BN category. Choice for the grade. Kentucky became the 15th state in the Union in 1792. The initial K on the reverse of this piece surmounts a pyramid, giving rise to the name. Although it is not dated, likely it was struck soon after the statehood status was confirmed. These coins were made in Birmingham, England.
