- THE SOMMELIER COLLECTION Only a single die pair was used to strike the entire mintage of 55,358 half cents in 1854. This is a very pleasing, near-GEM example housed in an old green tag holder. Copious ORIGINAL RED color clings around the peripheral devices and in the recesses of the sharply struck design elements. A brilliant luster booms through the mellow violet-brown toning. We note two flecks at the date, noted only for accuracy. The eye appeal is great. PCGS 82, NGC 52, CAC 24. The current CAC CPG value is listed at $1,020 and the PCGS Price Guide value is $975.
