Satiny, frosty, lustrous, and brilliant, this early Philadelphia mint Type I double eagle has distinct claims to a CHOICE grade. Scarce in MS62 and downright RARE any finer. Sharply struck devices stand out nicely against incredibly lustrous surfaces. A warm, honey gold tone dominates the brilliant surfaces. Some minor, scattered contact marks are seen on both sides, accounting for the assigned grade. None of the marks have any impact on the outstanding eye appeal. PCGS 43, NGC 25, CAC 11. Just two PCGS/CAC MS62 examples have sold in auction. One in March 2020 for $10,800 and one five years ago for $13,250. The PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $12,500 and the CAC CPG value is $13,000. Note: No CAC-approved MS63 has ever sold in auction and the last time a PCGS/CAC MS64 sold was nearly a decade ago, realizing over $80,000! A great coin for type or date purposes! Good luck. Cert.
