- 1853-O Liberty Seated Quarter. Arrows and Rays. Briggs 1-B. AU-58 (PCGS). This boldly toned example exhibits mottled steel-olive and pewter gray patina on the obverse, while the reverse is silver-gray with a blush of vivid golden-blue iridescence at the upper border. Both sides are boldly to sharply struck throughout. This New Orleans Mint issue is far scarcer than its Arrows and Rays counterpart from the Philadelphia Mint, with a mintage of just 1,332,000 pieces. Suffering a high rate of attrition through circulation, the 1853-O represents a particularly significant find in grades above EF, as here. Provenance: From the Steve Studer Collection.
