- 1904-S Morgan Silver Dollar. MS-65 (NGC). This is a splendid Gem with vivid reddish-gold peripheral toning to otherwise brilliant, satin white surfaces. Boldly to sharply struck with nicely preserved surfaces. The 1904-S is one of the most elusive Morgan dollars in all grades, as much of the mintage of 2,304,000 pieces was likely melted pursuant to the terms of the 1918 Pittman Act. Release of coins from federal storage was limited and came to an end during the 1950s, there being none in the Treasury Department releases of 1962 to 1964.
