- A vibrant luster, with hints of reflectivity beams in the light. Some lightness of strike in the central obverse, the rest of the devices are well struck with crisp definition. Close inspection with a glass does reveal light contact marks, but nothing that individually mars the eye appeal. A great coin to represent the Charlotte mint in a mintmark set, thanks to a 72,574 mintage, and a small hoard of Mint State coins found in the 1980s. PCGS 11, NGC 10. There has not been one sold in auction since June 2014, realizing $6,463. Before that, the last one sold in 2006! Clearly they do not appear at auction with ANY frequency! Collector's Universe value is currently listed at $8,000. The next grade up will certainly cost $10,000 or more. Mint State southern gold is always in demand and in generally short supply, but this one is a great value for the collector. Cert. Number 21275417 PCGS # 8251
