- From our Regency Auction 49, where it was described as: "Only two pairs of dies were used to strike the entire mintage of 1835 half cents, the differences between the two are easily identified by the placement of the ST in STATES. The B-2, C-2 variety, seen here has the ST close. This is a high-end example, likely in the Condition Census. Only two examples have ever graded numerically higher, a 66 BN and a 66 RB. The present PQ GEM has a bold look. Mellowed red on the obverse is faded to a soft, light brown, highlighted by a warm underlying brilliance. The reverse is mostly red and brilliantly lustrous. Well struck from die state VI, with a boldly pronounced bisecting die crack on the reverse and clashed dies. The eye appeal is quite nice!" PCGS 33, NGC 23, CAC 21. There are five examples in this lofty grade at PCGS and just one finer. The only one to sell in auction was the McGuigan-Foxfire-Pogue coin that was NOT CAC and brought nearly $6,500 over five years ago. The current Collectors Universe value is listed at $8,250 and we think this coin, with its outstanding look and CAC approval will bring close to that when the hammer falls. Bound for a fantastic type or date set of Classic Head half cents! Cert. Number 41230373 PCGS # 1169
