- S-249. Here is a great pedigreed Red Book variety Large Cent; traced back to the January 1944 sale of the Oscar Pearl Collection. Well struck on a hard copper planchet, the fields are smooth, devoid of any defects pre- or post-minting. A touch of wear on the highest points, otherwise this coin was lovingly cared for by collectors since being pulled from circulation and saved. Dark brown-mahogany surfaces show a wonderful gloss, showing off the wonderful detail and quality. PCGS 2, NGC 0. This coin has an impressive and extensive provenance dating to before 1944, as follows: Oscar J. Pearl Collection, Numismatic Gallery, January 1944, lot 178; Arthur Fritz; Rudolph Kohl; Federal Coin Exchange's 1952 FPL; Harold Bareford September 1985; Herman Halpern Collection, Stack' March 1988, lot 229; Adrian Ross Collection, Stack's, June 1990, lot 1204; Henry T. Hettger June 1990; Robinson S. Brown, Jr. Collection, Superior, January 1996, lot 346; Wes Rasmussen, Heritage, January 2005, lot 3300, where graded NGC AU58 and sold for $6,900. Only a handful of this "corrected fraction" variety are graded in AU, and become very expensive in Mint State. This lot includes the lot tickets from the 1988 Stack's, 1990 Stack's, and the 1996 Superior auctions, as well as the collector envelopes and the NGC AU58 insert. A great large cent for any collector! Cert. Number 26598156 PCGS # 911501
