- What a lovely GEM example of this popular Indian Head cent pattern. The J-212 is one of the most collectible pattern issues, as it fits beautifully with pattern issues and Indian head cents. The obverse is Longacre's Indian Head as adopted in 1859 mated with a reverse with an oak wreath and short shield. Struck in copper nickel with a plain edge, this variety is rated Rarity-4. Fresh and totally original, flashy mirrored fields have a blush of iridescent toning that pops in a light. The devices are keenly struck with razor sharp definition and the eye appeal is superb. PCGS 11, NGC 11, CAC 2. The most recent example sold in June 2011. So despite the common nature, these rarely appear in auction. The current PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $4,500.
