A beautifully original near-Gem example, one of only 125-175 estimated survivors. All 1803 half eagles are overdates, utilizing two different 1803/2 obverse dies. This choice specimen boasts an impressive strike with every detail boldly rendered including strong overdate detail appreciable without the aid of a loupe. Rich caramel-gold color is accented by strong mint luster blooming on both sides. The overall effect is outstanding coming together to create a piece that will fit wonderfully into a high-end type collection or specialized cabinet. PCGS has graded only seven examples finer.
